The Czech Evaluation Society, within its Annual Conference 2022, hosted a panel discussion with co-authors of the book Transformational Change for People and the Planet: Evaluating Environment and Development (Editors: Juha I. Uitto and Geeta Batra).

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is a plan of action for people, planet and prosperity. The attendant Sustainable Development Goals rest on three equally important pillars, the economic, social and environmental. In practice, however, the environmental dimension is often treated as an afterthought when it comes to policies, programs and evaluation.

Evaluation is important for finding sustainable solutions for people and the planet and to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The GEF Independent Evaluation Office and the Earth-Eval community of practice organized a webinar on the book Environmental Evaluation and Global Development Institutions: A Case Study of the Global Environment Facility (GEF). Our panel reflected on how to make evaluation count for international environmental action.

IEO Director Juha Uitto will participate in two panel sessions for the European Evaluation Society (EES) Conference: Evaluating in the Nexus As if Both the Nature and Humans Mattered on Wednesday, September 8 from 2:40 to 4:10 PM; and Evaluators for the good Anthropocene: How can we contribute on Thursday, September 9 from 4:00-5:00 PM.

The GEF IEO is also hosting a number of bursaries to attend the conference.

Geeta Batra, Deputy Director and Chief Evaluation Officer of the GEF IEO, will present on the panel 'Pathways towards transformational climate action: overcoming barriers and moving forwards' on Wednesday, September 8, 2021.
