The findings of the recently completed Evaluation of GEF Interventions in ASGM were presented to an event on planetGOLD in Review: Making a World of Difference in Small-scale Gold Mining. The event aimed to inform and raise awareness among governments, civil society and private sector partners from the gold supply chain (refiners, jewelers, electronics) regarding accomplishments of planetGOLD since its launch in 2019, and plans for its expansion.

Contributing to the good Anthropocene involves changing our relation to natural and human systems to foster ecological balances that would preserve life and biodiversity but also to create inclusive, equitable and resilient communities. How can evaluators contribute to this agenda? What approaches and frameworks can support evaluators in changing practices? What are promising approaches for the good Anthropocene? This event will be organized around short presentations including a period for live discussions and questions.

The pandemic of 2020 has brought on an unprecedented health and economic crisis. This crisis is also an environmental crisis. Its roots are in how we exploit and abuse the natural world and it demonstrates how intricately human health is linked with ecosystem health. At the same time, anthropogenic climate change is rapidly and irreversibly pushing us towards rising temperatures and sea levels, contributing to massive loss of biodiversity as well as steep escalation of poverty and inequality.

UNICEF and EVALSDGs, in partnership with GEF, Green Climate Fund, IEO, and Earth-Eval organized a webinar on Unintended Consequences and Trade-offs: Evaluating in the Nexus of Environment, Climate and Development.

The GEF IEO will facilitate a course on Evaluating at the Nexus of Development and Environment: Challenges and Opporunities for the Shanghai International Program Development Evaluation Training (SHIPDET). SHIPDET is hosted by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Independent Evaluation and the Asia-Pacific Fianance and Development Institute (AFDI).
