Juha I. Uitto, Director for the Independent Evaluation Office of the GEF, participated as a keynote speaker at the 2019 Asian Pacific Evaluation Association (APEA) international conference. Uitto focused his discussion on evaluation results tied to climate change and environmental sustainability's link with peace, security and development. In addition, Uitto chaired the session on Evaluating Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction (details TBD).
The main theme of the 2nd conference will be on Reducing Poverty-Enabling Peace: Evaluation for Accountability, Transparency and Sustainable Development.
APEA is a regional organization for evaluation in the Asia-Pacific that started in 2012. Its members have been increasing and now stand at 17, 15 of which are national VOPEs' (consisting of Afghanistan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Vietnam) and 2 as associate members (Australasian Evaluation Society and Parliamentarian Forum of Development Evaluation - South Asia).
