Fabrizio Felloni, Chief Evaluation Officer at GEF IEO, recently conducted a mission to Chad as part of an ongoing evaluation focused on the socio-economic co-benefits of GEF-funded interventions. These co-benefits include improvements in livelihoods, health, and market access resulting from climate adaptation and natural resource protection investments.
Key insights from the field visits to Mayo-Kebbi Est and Mayo-Kebbi Ouest:
- The UNDP project seeks to support farmers to adapt to climate change by improving access to weather information and diversifying crops to reduce risks from floods and droughts.
- The IUCN project’s objective is to promote ecological restoration while generating co-benefits like honey production, traditional medicine, and improved agricultural yields.
This mission also highlighted the need for enhanced collaboration between GEF, implementing agencies, and local partners to ensure sustainable impacts and scale up these co-benefits.
